It's Neo, if that wasn't obvious from the user name. We hadn't talked since you came in, and I didn't really expect that to change. But, I just wanted to say two things. The first is, if you ever need to find me I'm easy to find, and just as easy to avoid if you never want to see me. I'd understand either way.
And two, I'm sorry. I won't ever be able to fix what happened, but just know that I'm sorry it played out the way it did, and for my part in that.
[ That's... such a cute username for someone like Neopolitan. Penny frowns at her Omni for a long, long moment before she finally starts to write out a response. There's so much she could say, so much she wants to say, that deciding where to start is tricky. ]
When you agreed to work with Cinder, did you know what kind of person she is?
[Well, now that was a fair question wasn't it? Neo didn't respond immediately. She had to think about how to put this, because the short answer was both correct, and very much not correct.]
Yes, and No.
Cinder is a lot of things to me, among which is "The one person in all of Remnant I want to see die screaming." And back then, she was "one of two people I wanted to die screaming."
But do you want to hear the whole story? I ask, because there's a lot there, and I don't look that great when I tell it.
[there was a grunt from the other side of the feed and the voice sounded gruff, but more in the 'busy, working' sort of way people had when they were half-intent on the conversation and half busy building something.]
I believe you and I were going to trade schematics. If you wish to go over specifics, I am operating in my shop at present and unaltered by this lunar cycle's current brand of nonsense. You can forward them, or visit the shop and I will demonstrate the ability that I possess.
Outstanding. Yes. These documents need to be kept secure. I will be drawing up security measures to ensure that they remain safe. I will submit directions for you to find my workshop.
[To his credit? Equius viewed schematics like these almost like one would holy writ. He was absolutely not letting them fall into the hands of what he considered to be the unworthy, which was pretty much anyone. Robotics engineers and their jealously protected interests.]
Feel free to stop by as soon as you wish. I will be in all day.
[Whenever she might wish to stop by, she'd find his workshop set next to one of the foundries in town. There was an anvil and forge there, but the place was festooned with power cables, fabricated metal parts and various welding, soddering and electrical tools as far as the eye could see. It was kind of an eclectic collection of equipment that came with the smell of oil permeating throughout. The troll loved his work.]
[The scene is a very quick one, though a lot happens. The remains of a ruined Buddhist temple frame the scene, and two strange looking entities face each other down on opposite ends of a war-torn looking landscape. If you're observant, you might also find the group of people standing much further away, just at the base of the temple, looking on.]
[It's a man and a woman, both injured, and with them are roughly about ten or fifteen children, all young, all just as scuffed and worn as the adults, enraptured by the scene.]
[The entities, for the brief moment they stare each other down, do not appear to be very human at first glance. One of them is a grotesque looking man-spider, with a frightening visage and far too many limbs stacked onto a pair of human legs in military fatigues. Hideous and uncanny, with the implication it might have once been human, but is far from that now.]
[The other entity is much more humanoid-shaped. In fact, he could pass for just a man in an elaborate suit of armor, though its impossible to tell without knowing what might be under that helmet he's wearing. He is in a bright red scarf, and that might perhaps be a clue for anyone who has met a certain Hayato Ichimonji.]
[The man with the scarf is the one to finally break that moment of pause, leaping into the air. Leaping high into the air. So much so that you might lose him in the sky if you weren't fast enough to follow him. As he comes down he seems to pick up an enormous amount of speed, leg outstretched in an aimed kick. As he rockets towards the Spider, it retaliates with a blast of web, aiming to ensnare him before he can make contact with his attack.]
[It looks like it works for just a moment, but then webbing begins to shred and fly as the scarfed man bellows:]
RIDER SWIRLING KICK!
[He twists his body into a hyper fast spinning kick, ripping through not just the Spider's attack, but his entire fucking body. The man in the scarf hits the ground with a boom and the Spider, now in two entire pieces, curses him one final time before the entire scene explodes.
The dust clears as the group of children begin to run their way towards the wreckage, followed by the adults, calling for them to be careful.]
[At the center is a bloody and battered Hayato Ichimonji, who looks up in surprise as they come to meet him. They all begin to smile, and Hayato, in spite of himself, does too. His expression something both warm and elated mixed with exhaustion. His voice, for all he roared his attack earlier, is something gentle.]
did he always say stuff like that? guys talk a big game all the time. and yeah its weird he kept saying he was going to kill you are all your crushes like this
Miss Penny? I don't often do this but I'm in a bit of a pickle. I wanted to get you something for the holidays but I'm not actually sure what you might like.
[See, his go-tos are food and little mechanical things, and he isn't sure if she can eat or if it would be like... racist... to give a robot a robot?]
[ Oh! Penny knows what this is. Remnant doesn't really have an equivalent winter holiday to most of what she's seen going around, but it doesn't seem that difficult. Directly asking for something she wants might be a little awkward, but she's learned about the whole wishlist thing as well. ]
That's very kind of you! Lately I have enjoyed taking care of fish and plants. I'm still learning, so I would be happy with anything that might be useful for a beginner.
[congratulations, Penny! One of your least favorite people is texting you!]
Look, I'm sorry.
I know I promised to stay away and leave you alone, Penny. But do you have any clue what the hell is going on with Rubes because this is really weird? And I'm getting a really bad vibe from this situation.
[ Ugh. Ange is so bad at this. So bad. It's not even that she hates apologizing, she's fine with doing that when she feels like it's her place to do so, and this sure feels like it. It's the social aspect of it that's the problem, never having any idea how to properly word anything.
She's probably rewritten this message sixteen times, but it feels awkward every single time - so she just decides to send it. ]
I'm sorry, Penny.
I shouldn't have let any of that happen to Ruby. Or let all that stuff happen to any of you when you came in there.
[ Sure, Ange hadn't really known about what Ruby had been doing to people back in there - but when she snapped out of the corruption, it sure all came to her all of a sudden. ]

Do you have a minute?
Things are kind of chaotic here and well
I just need to talk for a little.
Maybe ask a favor.
no subject
Of course, Ruby.
Should I come meet you somewhere?
no subject
How about I come by your place.
Probably best not to have it at mine. It's weirdly complicated and involves a few people from Ange's world.

But no pressure if you're busy or anything.

I do.
